This remarkable head of etruscan tuff stone which also shows traces of color on the hair depicts a godness or a noble lady. It has been described as a great pieces of etruscan art.

But is this true? Unfortunately, this figure, also it has been sold by a remarkable auction house is not an original piece but a copy of the 19th century. It is fixed on a 19th century iron stand and therefore has a burr hole in the neck.

The shape of the face try to resemble archaic features but in fact the smile is more a smile of a renaissance lady or of many 19th century forgeries which have been sold for tourists making their "grand tour" at these times.  and it could be an early depiction of the godess Aphrodite.

This pieces comes from a Munich auction house and it has been written, that it formerly has been in a South German private collection.
